TIFFINBITES RECEIVES AWARD FOR MOST INNOVATIVE INDIAN RESTAURANT AT BRITISH CURRY AWARDS 2008At the ceremony, which took place at London's Grosvenor House Hotel, the City's favourite supplier of Indian cuisine received recognition for a new and modern approach to the nation's favourite food. Inspired by the tiffin wallahs, who deliver home cooked food to office workers all round Mumbai; Tiffinbites has been spicing up lunchtimes in the City since 2003. The company's passion for authentic, home- style food, served in a trio of traditional tiffin boxes containing three food portions to make a healthy balanced meal, has proved to be a winner amongst City boys and girls tired of the standard soggy sandwich. Now, with eight sites in London and food delivered in the form of “Tiffin Wednesdays to over 200 blue-chip companies including the BBC, 250,000 people are enjoying what Tiffinbites has to offer every week. Famed for attracting the likes of Shilpa Shetty, the restaurants, wholesale offering and retail outlets owned by Tiffinbites have seen mass expansion over the last five years, resulting in a new Indian restaurant group giant, the Gourmet Restaurant Group, which is leading the way in Indian dining on the high street. Having acquired the King's Road restaurant Vama and the Bombay Bicycle Club chain earlier this year, the group now is the largest Indian food group in the UK, with outlets in Harrods and Selfridges and a franchising programme which will see restaurants open across the UK and in Dubai. - Ends - Notes to editors: About Tiffinbites Tiffinbites offers real Indian food served the real Indian way. Launched in 2003, it currently operates four restaurants in London, and has a wholesale food business which caters for over 300 blue chip companies across the UK. The Tiffinbites concept is based around the tiffinbox a traditional metal storage container used in India to transport home-cooked food. Everyday thousands of tiffinboxes are used to carry Indian food to business people across Mumbai by workers called Tiffin-wallahs. Tiffinbites serves all its dishes in tiffinboxes as a practical and traditional serving solution. Tiffinbites dishes are prepared each day using freshly ground spices, fresh vegetables, the leanest cuts of meat and without the use of ghee (clarified butter).
